MSC Cyberport & Iskandar Regional Development Authority To Develop ICT Flagship in Iskandar Malaysia

MSC Cyberport Sdn. Bhd. today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) to strengthen collaboration in the promotion and enhancement of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) & Multimedia industry in Iskandar Malaysia.

One of the key joint collaboration for MSC Cyberport Sdn. Bhd. and IRDA is to ensure a successful development of the 150-acre of Bandar MSC Cyberport in Indahpura, Kulai which is proposed to be the ICT flagship of Iskandar Malaysia.

The signatories representing the two organizations were Mr. Ganesh Kumar Bangah, the CEO of MSC Cyberport Sdn. Bhd and YBhg. Dato’ Ikmal Hijaz Hashim, CEO of IRDA. The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Y.A.B. Dato’ Haji Abdul Ghani bin Othman, Menteri Besar of Johor.

Both MSC Cyberport Sdn. Bhd. and IRDA recognize that they share many common goals, including developing the local ICT industry through developmental programmes as well as in facilitating market access for the industry globally.

Abdul Ghani bin Othman, who is also IRDA co-chairman, said he was delighted that MSC Cyberport would be developing Bandar MSC Cyberport, the first MSC Malaysia Cybercity in Indahpura, Kulai.

“The project will be a joint venture between MSC Cyberport and Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ) a wholly owned subsidiary of the Johor State Government. Phase 1 of the project will have a Gross Development Value of around RM 460 million which will commence by end of 2008 and completed by end of 2011,” he added.

In his speech, Mr. Ganesh said that Bandar MSC Cyberport, the first MSC Malaysia Cybercity in Southern Malaysia, will be developed in 3 phases starting from end of 2008 over a 8-year period with an estimated Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM 1,158,420,190. The targeted business clusters will be in the areas of shared services outsourcing particularly in call centres, creative multimedia companies and software development organisations.

YBhg. Dato’ Ikmal Hijaz Hashim, said ICT was indeed an important component for Iskandar Malaysia, not only for the investors but more importantly we see this as an advantage for the Johor business community and its citizens. With this infrastructure in place, we can achieve more as a community and as an economy.

IRDA will ensure the success of MSC Cyberport Johor’s MSC Malaysia initiatives by facilitating and assisting MSC Cyberport Sdn. Bhd. to market, promote and provide access to related incentives for MSC Cyberport Sdn. Bhd. and the companies locating in MSC Cyberport Johor.

Both MSC Cyberport Sdn. Bhd. and IRDA will also be participating in the World Congress on Information Technology 2008 (WCIT 2008) billed as the “Olympics of ICT”, which will be held from 19th to 21st of May 2008 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
